VERONICA
RIBOT-CANALES
Cornell
University Diving Coach
Coach Ribot-Canales came to Cornell in August
of 2007 with an impressive list of diving accomplishments. Her
college career began at Boston University, but she then transferred
to Southern Methodist University graduating with a B.A. in Physical
education. During her collegiate years she was a New England Champion,
a Texas State Champion and an All American.
From 1980-1996, Veronica was a 12 time South
American champion and a finalist in four Olympic Games (1980-1992
Moscow, L.A., Seoul, Barcelona). Her best placingings were 8th
on the platform and 10th on the three meter springboard, and was
the only woman at the Barcelona games to make the finals (top
12) in both Olympic events, while representing Argentina. |
She competed in three World Championships (1982, 1986, 1991), won Silver
and Bronze medals on the platform at the Pan American Games (1983 &
1987). Veronica switched her sports nationality from Argentina to the
U.S. and captured two U.S.senior national titles on the three meter
springboard (1992 & 1993) as well as Gold and Bronze medals also
on the springboard at the U.S. Olympic Festivals (1994 & 1995).
Veronica also competed at the 1998 World Masters Championships,
where she was a three-time Gold medalist on the one and three meter
springboards and the 10 meter platform while setting new world records
in the process. Veronica was selected among her peers to be on the first
historic panel of professional judges at the 2007 NCAA Women’s
Swimming & Diving championships.
