Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Geatz served as head coach at the University of New Mexico during the 1988-89 season, leading the Lobos to a top 15 national ranking while earning Western Athletic Conference and NCAA regional coach of the year honors. Geatz most recently was the associate head coach at Ohio State in 2008, helping the Buckeyes to a 35-2 record, a Big Ten title and a ranking as high as No. 2 in the country. The squad finished third overall and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals. He spent the previous year (2006-07) as tennis director at the Hong Kong Country Club.
