About the camp

Cornell University will once again sponsor a summer Youth Sports Camp for children between the ages of 7 and 11.  Children will be grouped by age.  Camps will be held Monday through Friday from  9:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Campers will receive individual and group instruction in a variety of sports. Supervised  team competitions will also be held, again with teams separated by age groups. Every camper receives a free t-shirt.

Children will learn and play several different sports each week (football has been removed from the curriculum).  Campers particpate in bowling and a week ending skit. A daily swimming session is included in the camp curriculum.

Camp Philosophy
Our main goal is to foster learning in a fun, sports-oriented atmosphere where children receive positive feedback for their accomplishments and recognition for their participation.  Participation in sports can greatly enhance both the physical and mental development of young children. Children between the ages of 7 and 11 are active, exuberant, and possess a growing sense of independence. By experiencing a wide variety of sports, these children can gain self-confidence and self-esteem in a climate of teamwork and fair play.

In addition to learning about the physical and mental aspects of athletics, children will benefit from the daily social interaction with others. The Youth Sports Camp will allow children to develop camaraderie with their peers and to work with other children as a team.

Staff

The Youth Day Camp will be supervised by Cornell’s assistant director of recreation and intramural. Guest coaches will teach skills specific to particular sports. Camp staff will be comprised of college students who have a background in youth education and athletics.

Before and After Care

A "Before and After" Day Care program is offered.

The program will be held at Helen Newman Hall. Staff members supervise and lead a variety of activities, according to the interest/talents of the children participating in the program.

Program hours are Monday-Friday:

Mornings sessions 7:30 - 9:00 A.M.

Afternoons sessions 4:30 - 5:30 P.M.

Day camp before care is $20/week and after care is $40/week.
Before and after care is $50/week.

Parents are required to sign their children in and out when  dropping them off in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. Please allow time in your schedule to make sure this gets done.  It is vital our staff know when children are on site and where they are at all times!

Before & after care fees for the entire week are due on Monday mornings.  No refunds or credits if child does not use prepaid care.

Schedule
Registration will be held at Helen Newman Hall every Monday at 8:00 a.m. Campers will be at various activities and locations throughout the day, depending on what group they are assigned to. Lunches will be from 11:30-12:30 p.m. daily.

Campers may be dropped off at Helen Newman Hall at 8:45 a.m. and should be picked up at 4:30 p.m. If you wish to drop your child off before 8:45 a.m. and/or pick up after 4:30 p.m. you will need to sign up for before and after care.

Counselors
Our counselors provide constant supervision and instruction for campers during sessions, in the dining halls and to and from sessions and meals (One counselor for every 10 campers).

Campers should bring a water bottle, swimsuit and towel.
